Why Repair or Replace a Cracked or Chipped Windscreen?

Why Repair or Replace a Cracked or Chipped Windscreen?

Most cracks or chips are caused by driving behind big trucks on major roads. A stone flies up from the wheels of the truck and hits the windscreen at force, sometimes chipping it and sometimes cracking it. The windscreen plays an important part when it comes to the structure and strength of a vehicle. With a crack in the windscreen, it can actually lessen this structural strength.

Depending on where the crack or chip is, it can also impair visibility, in particular in some light conditions. On a sunny day, the crack can give off a lot of glare that can affect the vision of the driver.

If you have a cracked or chipped windscreen, it’s important that you get it seen to as quickly as possible so that you are not putting your passengers and yourself at risk.  This can sometimes mean that you can save the windscreen by having a minor repair done. In some situations, you may need to have a complete replacement. (All cracks require a replacement windscreen)

A windscreen technician can repair the windscreen by injecting a liquid resin into the chip. Quite often this will be enough to prevent you from having to purchase a whole new windscreen.

Most windscreen repairs and replacements are covered by your car insurance.
